Community Store Management
Community stores require a fine balance of financial viability, sustainability and social outcomes to meet the needs of Aboriginal people in community.
We believe stores can create profits and be a valuable place of employment for locals and support the wider community. We aim to disrupt the market and influence prices, and increase competition.
Community stores are crucial for local employment and food security and we believe stores should be 100% Aboriginal owned and operated. We support owners to stock their stores with quality products at reasonable prices and make decisions that are right for them and the whole community.
Currently AIG is managing Barunga Community Store and Wirib Store and Tourism Park. There are plans to expand our store management portfolio because of the interest for other communities to change the way their stores are currently being managed.
Through community consultation AIG identified a range of essential products and called them Mob's Choice. The products in this food range are essential items for a family in community. We've been successful in lowering the prices of these products in the stores that we manage. Look for the Mob's Choice tags in the stores we manage.
