Our approach to store management is based on a belief that community stores should be commercially sustainable but socially responsible. We support store owners running their own stores so they can be involved in making decisions that are right for them.

No rebates

We do not accept rebates on any product in any store that we manage. We believe receiving financial incentives for selling products in community stores drives the shelf prices up and limits the store range. Rebates create an environment where essential products are too expensive for people living in community.

Given the lack of choice (they can’t just go to the next shop down the road), the practice of rebates is unethical and negatively impacts food security. In our opinion rebates should not be offered by suppliers to any community store in the NT and the focus should be on making products as affordable as the can possibly be.

Not accepting rebates from suppliers means we can lower the shelf price and keep the range of quality products wide in store. Part of being socially responsible involves making quality products affordable.
